Dog Collective Co.

Dog Stylist & Grooming Academy

Dog Collective Co. also offers professional dog groomer training. Have you always dreamt of becoming a dog groomer? Maybe you loved learning how to groom your own dog so much that you want to turn it into your new career? Just imagine turning up for work everyday and having Poochie the Pomeranian, Bella the Bichon, Larry the Labrador and Milo the Maltese as your clients?

Dog Collective Co. can help you fulfil your dream and train you in everything "dog groomer". Having trained multiple dog groomers in the past, it's a delight seeing them now running their own successful dog grooming businesses or working within the industry.

Learning to become a professional dog groomer at Dog Collective Co.

Work with real dogs from the very beginning:

At Dog Collective Co. we know that the only way to truely learn how to become a dog groomer is to train on real dogs. Unlike the majority of training courses available, you will be hands on with real life K9's from day one of your groomer training. No book or video can prepare you for what it's really like to physically have to handle a dog, bath a dog and groom a dog - hands on is the only way to go! Don't worry, your trainer will be with you every step of the way so you'll never be on your own. All dogs used for groomer training will be organised for you, or, we can train on yours or friends and families dogs too.

What will you learn?:

You will learn the essentials of what it takes to be a professional dog groomer, 'Dog Grooming 101'. Like anything in life, you will never stop learning, but you will definitely have the essential knowledge to go out there and proudly announce "I'm a professional dog groomer!". As there are a multitude of different breeds and style cuts, it's impossible to learn everyone of them, however, you will have done the groundwork and have the foundations from which you can grow. You will also learn about dealing with clients, the cleaning and maintenance of equipment and the general running of a dog grooming business, such as where to purchase products, booking systems, pricing and so much more. Some of the things you will learn are as follows:

• How to properly bath a dog

• How to shave and clipper a dog

• Different types of styles

• Scissoring a dog

• How to blow-dry a dog

• How to brush out a dog

• How to clip a dog's nails

• How to clean and pluck a dogs ears

• How to trim dog's paw pads

• How to tidy a dog's face

• How to clip around a dog's eyes

• How to do a sanitary clip (bottom etc.)

• How to de-shed a dog's coat

• How to brush a dog's teeth

• Different blade lengths and how to choose which to use

• How to maintain grooming equipment

• How to deal with difficult dogs

• Advise on running a dog grooming salon, mobile salon and working in the industry

• Plus much MUCH more ...

Location:

Professional dog groomer training takes place at the Dog Collective Co. private grooming studio based in Southport on the Gold Coast. Free onsite parking available. If you already have a job, own or are starting up a salon or mobile salon you'd like to learn in, this can be organised by special arrangement.

Dog Collective Co. offers the following three professional dog groomer course options:

Option One:

One on One Training

*This course option can commence any time throughout the year dependant on availability.

This is the perfect solution for someone who requires flexibility with their training, or maybe you just like learning on your own (and with the trainer of course).

How many people per course?

Just you and your trainer.

How long will the course take?

The 'One on One' dog groomer training is a 60 hour course. As this course option is 'One on One', it's extremely flexible when it comes to choosing days and times for your training. This course can be taken over a day or two (or more) each week, or even full time dependant on trainer availability.

What time does the course start each day?

As this is a flexible training option, times differ with students needs. However, If possible we recommend arriving a bit earlier than decided start time to settle in and check-in your 'doggie model/s'.

What time does the course finish each day?

As we're working with animals, it can be difficult to predict how long each day's session will take, therefore some days will be longer and some shorter than others. A log book will be kept with your training hours to ensure the full 60 hours of training is received.

What will I receive?

Aside from awesome hands on training, you will receive the following:

• You will receive a Dog Collective Co. Professional Dog Groomer Course workbook which is yours to keep. This is a great tool to make notes in throughout your course and to refer back to once your course is complete.

• You'll have your own dog grooming mentor! just because your course is complete doesn't mean you can never talk to your trainer again. Once you've been a Dog Collective Co. student, feel free to call or email anytime you need.

• Once you've completed your course, you will have the option to appoint your trainer/mentor for some 'one on one' in person time. This can either be at the grooming studio or a location of your choosing (i.e. your own grooming salon). This can be a great option if you're setting up your own grooming or mobile salon, or if you just feel you'd like some 'one on one' in person mentoring or training. (Cost's apply for in person mentoring at the rate of $65 per hour for past students - minimum 2 hours. Extra costs may apply if travel outside the Gold Coast is required.)

What qualification will I receive?

By the end of this training you will receive a Certificate of Completion from Dog Collective Co. Grooming Academy.

No official qualifications are currently required to work as a dog groomer in Australia. However, if you would like to receive a nationally recognised qualification, Dog Collective Co. in collaboration with the Heiniger Academy can assist you in obtaining a DUAL Certificate III in Pet Grooming & Companion Animal Services - ACM30617 & ACM30417 (extra fees will apply). For further details please read the information below regarding the Heiniger Academy.
